This is a piece I was sort-of commissioned for by Mr. Greubel. He has had other students in the past make murals similar to this, so he wanted me to round out his collection. The ones done in the past focused on marching and concert band, so I wanted mine to focus on jazz band. The geometric pattern is present on all murals, so I included it in mine as well.
I started this back in August of 2025. First steps were to smooth out the canvas, which is actually just insulation, with air-dry clay. Then I sanded the entire thing and painted a white basecoat. Then I drew my triangles and began painting. The triangles took me roughly 5 months of class, although I was not constantly working on them. Then I traced out the players and painted them a blakc sillhouette. Next steps are to add white music notes and then I should be done.
There is no symbolism in this work.
I struggle with the size and amount of time this has taken me. I started before school started, and now it's January and I'm still not done.

My idea for this drum head originally had to come from our fall marching band show, Caliente. It was a latin show, so I took to pinterest to find inspiration and I found some very beautiful floral designs. It's since transformed from latin to a more 60s/70s style, but I still think it will sell well.
I started by doing some practice sketches with my idea to prepare myself. I then drew on my idea with washable marker so I could go back and fix my mistakes. I then mixed my paints and designed my color palette. I began painting over winter break and finished it by the new year. Then I outlined everything with posca markers and painted the back of the flowers so they were more opaque. Then I had the whole band sign the back. I divided everyone by instrument and had each instrument sign a flower.
There's a little bit of symbolism in this work. I think it shows how each person/petal makes up a flower (section), and the flowers come together to make a whole garden (show). Each person, whether they are a scared little freshman who is still figuring out which foot is their left or an experienced senior section leader, makes up a great show.
The most difficult thing was figuring out what to do with the space. This is a big drum head, so I needed an idea to take up all the empty space. I think I accomplished this well.
This is a somewhat abstract piece. This also shows my love for vintage patterns and styles, and bright colors.

This was inspired by recent events and people in our government. I also took inspiration from the well-known song 'This Land is your land, this land is my land'.
I started with a blank black canvas. I then traced out a map of the USA on it. Then I went through tons of magazines and cut out photos of various cultures and people that make up our country. I tried to focus on making it as diverse as possible because we live in a very diverse country. I included people of all ages, races, and regions of the world. I wanted my message to be clear. Then I went in and filled in the blanks and added the lyrics with red, white, and blue paints. To finish it off I added a glossy varnish.
This artwork is filled with meaning. It's a representation of our country and the people who make it up. If you aren't native american, you are either an immigrant or a child of one. To say that certain people do not belong here is wrong. We ALL belong here and we ALL have a place here. This land was made for everyone, even YOU and ME.
I struggled with the spacing on the words. I wasn't sure how to format it or what should be what color.
This is an abstract collage. I love that it gave me a way to voice my opinion on current events.
