Nick Arnold “Mom”

8x11, Graphite and Charcoal, 2019

I went with the theme of mental disorders and the specific order I went with was Capgras. In case you don’t know what that is, it’s where a person believes that someone close to them has been replaced with an imposter.

The only symbolism I can think of is probably the mask.

I would’ve wanted to add some colors to it and maybe make her a little less static..? She looks like she’s staring into a camera.

I like the shading I’ve gotten with the charcoal.

Nick Arnold “Hourglass”

I wanted this to be a scenery but I added my own flair to it by giving it a deeper meaning.

Other than the hourglass, representing time, on the top is life and the sun. Below is where you go where the time runs out. Get the picture?

I would probably add more symbolism than what I already have because I want the theme to be apparent to anyone that takes a passing glance at it.

I like the black and white theme of it. I also enjoy how well the hourglass turned out and although I wanted there to be more to the background, I also feel as if I use the negative space to my advantage.
