Meredith Grant "Chiefs Magnet"
2x1x.2" Stoneware and Paint, 2025
I made both of these magnets to represent my family. This stands for the sports team my family loves and celebrates. It also shows my dad and his side of the family's roots and they were born and raised there. I started by making the basde and perfecting it to the shape I wnated. To created the piece on top I traced the shape I wanted and cut it out so I knew it would look how I wanted. The most difficult part was making sure the arrowhead was the percect shape. I don't really know what style of art this is. I would say realism again because I based it on a picture. I hope when people understand that I'm representing my family with these pieces that they think about their family as well and what may represent them.
Meredith Grant "Florida Magnet"
2x2x.1" Stoneware and Paint, 2025
As I said before this magnet represents my family. This is the famous light house in St. George Island, FL where I have family living and where my parents bought land to someday move. This is our yearly vacation spot and my family has many memories in this place. I started by wanting the top to be the actual shape of the lighthouse but this proved to be to fragile and therefore I changed my idea. I started with the base and then created the lighthouse to add ontop. The most difficult was making sure I didn't accidentally break the lighthouse as I put it onto the base. Again as I said before when people see this I want them to think of their family and what represents them.
Meredith Grant "The Flower Pitcher"
2x5x2.5" Stoneware and Glaze, 2025
This is the pitcher. We were required to create this project so I didn't really have a lot of choices when it came to the design. We started by using the slab roller on the clay to create a flat piece of clay. The then pressed a pattern into it and molded it into a cylinder. After we added the base we smoothed the imperfections and fired it. Then all was left was to glaze it. I don't honestly have something I want people to think when they see this. There isn't a specific meaning behind it for me. The most difficult part of this project was getting everything even because I was just starting out and was still confused about some things. I would put this in the section of realistic art because the flowers are realistic.
Meredith Grant "Flower Chip and Dip Bowl"
8x5x2.5" Stoneware and Glaze, 2025
'This is a chip and dip bowl that I made to express my love of food. I really came up with the idea because I started to make a bowl within a bowl but I didn't end up making them big enough so I just connected them. I started by putting my clay through the slab press and then stamping t with a pattern. I made 3 different sized bowls ad just connected them. This artwork again means nothing I just wanted to make something I could use at home. The most difficult part was chaning my idea while I was making this project. I think it is unique to my own style because I personally really like the pattern and the color.
Meredith Grant "Festive Pumpkin"
7x7x6.5" Stoneware and Glaze and Paint, 2025
This is a pumpkin that we made as a class. It wasn't my own idea but I did make the shape purposefully because I wanted something I could set of my table and that could hold things we needed. We used the coiling technique and built up by making about two or three rows then smoothing it down. The most difficult part was making the coils even all the way around because one side became taller than the other. When people see this I want them to think about the Thanksgiving and fall season.
Meredith Grant "Starfish"
4x4x2.5" Stoneware and Glaze, 2025
These are two little star shaped bowls that were glazed to look like starfish. These are for my little sister. In my head the thought for use was to put jewelry or other little items in them. I know my sister likes the sea and things like that so I think she will really apreciate these and put them on her desk in her room. To make this I had circular slabs of clay and put them into the bowl molds then pinched the corners which ended in the starfish shape. I then glazed them the base color and added the starfish dots. If I could start over I would reslab the blue starfish because the slab wasn't even all around making that bowl look less prfessional. What I love about this piece is that it was made in the thought of my sister and I love the fact that I know she will appreciate it.
Meredith Grant "Border War Checkers"
15x15x0.5" Stoneware and Glaze, 2025
This is a checkerboard I made for my parents. My dad went to the University of Missouri and my mom went to the Universty of Kansas. These two schools have a famous rivalry because they are border schools. To symbolize this big time in my parents life I created a checkerboard with the two school colors. However, some of the colors did not turn out how I thought they would so it doesn't represent what I wanted it to represent anymore. If I could start over I would put more coats of the glaze on the board itself so that the color may be more prevelent. Again I love the fact that it was made with those I love in mind, in this case it was my parents. I like the fact that it represents who they are and a big part of our family still.
Meredith Grant "M"
15.75x2.5x2.5" Cardboard and Hot Glue
This is a cardboard model of the letter "M". I did this as my 3D project because I didn't have to make a very extravagant 3D model because I did a lot of clay projects. To make this project I cut out rectangles of cardboard for all the sides. I then glued them all together after I had cut them out. The letter "M" just happened to come to my head first. I think that I can use this artwork to symbolize that I made things for those I love and finally made something that represents me.
Meredith Grant "The Fly Of The Butterfly"
Paper, Markers, Clay
This is a stop-motion video about a butterfly who is flying around a field and finally finds her flower. She lands on the flower and then leaves. To make this project we (Me and Marlee Kitchen) drew a scene on a piece of paper and created a butterfly out of clay. Then you took pictures of the clay in multiple spots moving it just a little bit each time. Them we imported them into I Movie and clipped them together with sound as well.
