9x12, Acrylic, 2024
I wanted to challenge myself by using different techniques and textures. I started with a base green and blue color. I used a dry brush to add grass texture and focused on using yellows and whites to acheive the texture I wanted. I did the same process for the tress, but used some darker colors to shade them. This piece does not have a deep meaning, rather its just a picture I liked and wanted to paint. The skin and facial features were by far the most difficult part for me. It is unlike anything I have done before. It was a lot of trial and error on what techniques I found beneficial to me and what didn't work for me. I overcame struggles by working on a different area of the painting and coming back to what was frustrating me. This is a realistic painting which is what I love, because its my first realistic painting.

I went into this painting with really no idea what I wanted to do. I started adding colors to create some contrast but was impatient so everything ended up blending together. I began with a rough sketch and added a base color of blue. I added the bright red and yellow to give it some contrast and make it look more abstract. There is really no symbolic meaning to this painting. However I don't care that it wasnt perfect because I was expierementing with different brushes and colors. Also each flower us unique, so thats how I wanted mine. If I started over on it I would want to take more time on painting it. I do love all the vibrant colors that are included.

9x12, Acrylic, 2024
I knew I wanted to paint my dogs, but I wanted to change up the style of painting. I had previously just finished a realistic painting and wanted to challenge myself. To create this painting I mixed different colors as I went along. I wasn't stressed about making the perfect colors, and I think that really is what made the painting come together. I used a single paintbrush and did small strokes, each a unique color. To any person they would just see this painting as too dogs, but they mean so much more to me. That is where I got the title of my painting from. The most difficult part for me was the eyes, because I didn't want them looking too realistic when nothing else was. Overall I love the style of this painting and feel the color palate is what really brought it all together.

Megan Schladetzky, Waterfall
4x6, Watercolor, 2024
I wanted to paint a picture of a waterfall I had previously taken last summer. However I knew I was running short on time to make it as detailed as I had imagined, but I didn't want it to look like a rushed acrylic painting. I got the idea to do a watercolor painting for this picture, because it was out of my comfort zone and not a type of painting I had done before. To created this I started with a messy watercolor base of all the colors I was wanting to include. I then let that dry and went in with white acrylic paint to add the texture of the water falling. With the acrylic paint I also added some fine details like the rocks and branches. The most difficult part for me was the watercolor, because it didn't look like it would come together. It was lacking so much detail and was struggling to make it all come to life. That is when I added the acrylic paint that really brought it all together. If I redid this painting I don't think I would have done anything different. I would just want to remind myself to not panic and pack on the watercolor because it will all come together eventually.
