Painting 1

Mairead Willimack “Queen Peacock”

9x12, Acrylic, 2019

The style of my painting is surrealism. Though there are elements of realism in the painting as well, the way that I did the background makes it surrealism. This is a painting of a peacock, I think that peacocks are very beautiful animals so I decided to paint one. If I were to start over I would change the way that I did the eye. If I were to do it again I would sketch the eye out to before I painted the body at all. I had a hard time getting the eye to look right and it still didn’t turn out exactly how I was hoping. The thing that I love most about it is how I did the background. I love that way the dry brush looks and how the colors al fade together. I also love how some of the background colors are muted and some are bright.

Mairead Willimack “Pumpkins”

9x12, Water Color, 2019

The style of my painting is realism, it has shading and colors that are very similar to the colors of real pumpkins. I really love fall, the fall colors, and I think that pumpkins are very pretty. I wanted to try my best to capture the beauty of the pumpkins and for them to represent the beauty of fall as well. If I were to start over I would probably use a mixture of acrylic and water color. I think it would be better if I had used acrylic for the pumpkins, I think it would have made them stand out more. I do really like the way that I did the pumpkins but it would have also been cool to try it with acrylic as welal. I really love the way that the colors all blend together with the shading and the coloring of the pumpkins. of fall as well

Mairead Willimack “Windmills”

12x18, Acrylic, 2019

The style of this landscape is surreal. The objects and the brightness of all of the colors make the painting look to perfect to be real. The colors are very bright and most of the lines are very clean. These factors make it look more surreal because they make it look unreal and like a perfected version of the real thing. There is really no symbolism in this painting. If I were to start over I would change a lot about my painting. I would make the sky more of a sunset and I would have made the ground look like it was hilly rather than a flat area. I love the way that the windmills turned out. I like that way that the shading is and how they almost don’t look finished.

Mairead Willimack “Flowering”

18x24, Acrylic, 2019

The style of my painting is surrealism. I chose to paint this painting of a flower because I love flowers and think they are beautiful. I came up with this idea from my head and one thing I would change about the paint is the color and texture of the center of the flower. I wish I would have made it more textured and I also would have made the brown lighter because it looks almost black. I also think that because of how dark the center was it is harder to see the little bit of texture that is there. I love the way that they petals look. I love that way that the detailing is subtle and it looks dry brushed and even a little messy. I think that the petals have a good texture because of it.
