Astrology Scream
9 x 12
Chalk Pastels, Oil Paste, Colored Pencils, Paper, Pencils, Ruler, Blender.
My source of inspiration for my recreation of the Scream was my love for Astrology. I enjoy studying the stars and learning about them, especially zodiacs and constellations, so this sparked my inspiration. I started by sketching out my design, figuring out what I wanted to do. After I had my plan and finished sketching, I moved on to the final draft. I tested some materials and decided what to use to get the color and effect I wanted. I finished sketching everything onto my final paper and started coloring it in. After the color and designs were on it, I was finished. When I came upon a problem when making my Scream piece, I tested different ways to fix it. For example; in the water where the reflection of the constellations is, I struggled to make them show up with a white pencil. I tested out different ways to fix my problem, and my solution was a white oil pastel. It didn't show up very well t first, so I erased some of the dark pencil and then went over it with the oil pastel. I really risked the bright white constellations in the sky. I didn't know how to make them show up, so I was about to color over them with black and then go over it with the white oil pastel. But before I did that, I tested it out on another sheet of paper, and it didn't show up. So I improvised and just made the lines around the shapes super thin, and erased the pencil lines from before. This really worked out well for me in the end. The constellations are probably my favorite part of the piece. In the end, though, I wish the reflection on the water turned out better. It didn't turn out the way I wanted it to. Maybe next time I'll do what I did for the sky on the water.

Digital Harry Potter
Sketchpad/Digital Art cite
My inspiration for this project was my love for the Harry Potter books and movies. I'm a huge fan of the series and wanted to use the world of Hogwarts for my project. I knew there were some cool things I could recreate on the digital cite, which there were. I first started with the Hogwarts crest. It was very difficult to do. I started with testing different paintbrushes and seeing what they could do. I used a thin paintbrush to get the small details like the shadowing on the animals and the letter H in the middle, which stands for Hogwarts. I think moved onto the glasses and golden snitch, which were much easier to make. I used the circle shape for the round figures. I used a different texture in the middle so it looked more realistic and got the detail right. The Deathly Hallows symbol was definitely the easiest to make. I just used a triangle, a circle, and a thin rectangle to make the symbol. The Goblet of Fire I think was a bit more difficult. I struggled to get the shape of the goblet right, and the flames were a bit harder to do. I think the shading worked out well though. The Patronus I think looks the best. I used one of the deer faces (emoji, symbol, shape) for the stud. A stud (buck, deer) is Harry's Patronus, so I thought that would represent the piece of art best. After placing the shape, I took different shades of blues and made the thickness of the color lighter, so the stud showed through. In the movies, the Patronus's glowed blue, so I wanted that effect to still be there. I struggled to make the Hogwarts crest a lot. It was pretty difficult. I took a reference photo and placed it next to it so I could see the shapes better. I came to a big problem when making the animals though. I fixed this by getting rid of the fill on the paintbrush because that was what was causing it to look funny. I struggled most with the crest. I'm very proud of the way it turned out, but I think my favorite part is the Patronus. I feel like I really got the effect right and the deer shape made it much easier to complete it. I think the biggest risk I took was adding shapes to the crest to fix the detail. It looked super weird at first and not right, but after adjusting the shapes and going over it a little with the paintbrush, it looked more normal. If I was to change anything about the piece, I would change the way the crest looks. The whole shape and size is off, and the animals look a bit funky. But otherwise, I'm very proud of the way it turned out, I think for my first time using digital art it turned out well.

Metal Tooling Gryffindor
9 x 12
Paper, oil pastels, chalk pastels, colored pencils, blending stump, aluminum metal, sharpies, hot glue, black paint wash, eraser.
My source of inspiration for my project was my Hogwarts house. I am a huge fan of the Harry Potter franchise. My Hogwarts house is Gryffindor, so I decided to do my metal tooling project on it. The process for my project was a bit long, but not hard. I started by choosing my theme. After that, I planned and sketched my design for my metal. Next, I planned my background and traced the designs on my metal; indenting it. After doing my tracing, I did the black wash over the metal to make the design pop out more. While my metal dried, I started my background. I decided for the background to do things that represent Gryffindor. Like the fire in the far right, bottom corner. Fire is Gryffindors element. I also did the sword of Godric Gryffindor, the founder of the house. I also decided to do the chosen one himself, Harry Potter. I also did a golden snitch and quidditch rings because Gryffindors are superior at the sport and they love it. For the final touch, I added the Deathly Hallows symbol. I faced a few challenges when doing my project. On Harry Potter, I messed up several times trying to get his face shape right, and while in the process I messed up and added white colored pencil on his nose. It was very difficult trying to cover it up so I used the blender to blend it out and make it not so noticeable. I also had some troubles with the fire. The background of the background is black, and I realized I couldn't put the vibrant colors over it. So I blended it in with the black so now it looks like it has a smoke affect, which I really like.I took a big risk drawing Harry, I didn't know how well he would turn out, but I'm very proud of how it turned out. I also took a risk with the black background. It was risky because if it got on any of the other parts, it wouldn't be able to come off. But it turned out good in the end. I think I am most proud of the way my metal turned out. I'm really proud of my whole project, but my design was very detailed and it was a bit difficult to do, but I'm very proud of how it turned out. I think if I were to change anything, I'd change the way the snitch looks. I feel like I could have done better on it, but it stilled turned out pretty good.
