Kylee Postell “DINO HEAD”
11x6x7, Cardboard, hot glue, acrylic paint, 2021
The style of this project is realism. I started off my sketching out my idea and then did the same on cardboard into pieces. Piece by piece I cut out each section of my project. It originally wasn’t supposed to be a mask, but as I constructed and started hot gluing it all together, it seemed fit to be both a mask or décor. After it was all put together, I painted and it was finished. If I were to start over I would make sure all of my pieces were even and smooth. I would also choose thinner cardboard that is easier to manipulate. What I love most about this project is how it was made for my nephews and quickly became something more than it was originally supposed to be, like making it so it can go on your head.
Kylee Postell “To The Moon”
10x6, Wire
The style of this sculpture is surreal due to its moon structure but added in face. I started off by sketching out my idea and plan, and originally thought I would make it a standing sculpture using air-dying clay. After I started constructing I later figured that I liked it better to where it can hang on a wall rather than stand with clay. If I were to start over I would add more jewels to it and more wire to make it stronger. I love how my project turned out and that I can go home and even add fairy lights to it to make the moon light up.
Kylee Postell “Add Some Light”
3x5, Clay Ceramic
The style of this project is realistic due to its use for holding a plant. I started out by gathering wedged clay and rolled out some slabs. I used a cup to cut around one slab to create my base and then attached two other rectangular slabs together onto the base with slip. After I was done perfecting it, adding texture, and it being fired, I then decided on a white glaze color. If I were to start over I would make my pot more circular to make it more professional looking. What I love most about this project is that I know I could find a good use for it because I love décor like this in my house and in my room especially.
Kylee Postell “Coming From The Heart”
4x4, Clay Ceramic
The style of this piece is realistic due to the purpose of it being a mug to drink out of. I started out by getting wedged clay and rolling out slabs. I cut out heart-shaped slabs for my base and sides of the mug. Then, I rolled a coil and formed it in a heart-like shape. I attached everything with slip and then glazed with a gray and pink color. If I were to start over, I would choose different colors or color for my mug. I ended up not liking the gray due to its darkness. Next time I would go for a lighter gray. What I loved about this mug is how its different. How often do you see a mug shaped like a literal heart with even a heart handle.
