Kaylie Devine "Plate Bowl"

8x8x3 Stoneware & Glass 2022

My idea for this was I wanted something to be multi-purpose. It took me a while going back and forth to decide what I really wanted to do. My process was me going back and forth and building and then I ended up just putting everything together. When people see my art I want them to see that it is meant to be used for many things and be able to use the bowl and plate parts for different things. I think the hardest for me was trying to make everything smooth and flat but also have a design in it. I love the colors and how the texture shows off the unique colors I used from the different glazes. The style of this are is supposed to be realistic.

Kaylie Devine "Chip and Dip Bowl"

10x9x2 // 5x5x1 Stoneware & Glass 2022

My idea was that I wanted to have 2 bowls that are supposed to be used together but look different from each other. I wanted my big one to have a design but I wanted my little one to be plain. I did them both at different times so I did not have a clear idea of what I wanted. If I could go back I would make the smaller one the gold color I used on my big bowls design. I think that it should show some creativity but also know that they are two things that go together. I think the hardest part for me was to try and get the matching ruffle pattern into both of them. It was really hard to imprint them with the tube but I love how they turned out. The style is realistic and what I think makes it unique to others is that they are not matching and do not look the same.

Kaylie Devine "Snake Vase"

10x5 Stoneware & Glass 2022

My idea was to have my vase with something wrapped around it as a handle and I wanted it to be an animal. I thought my best bet was to do a snake because it would make the most sense. I wanted both of my colors to be darker but I wanted the snake to be lighter than the vase. However I wanted the vase part to have some other colors mixed into it. If I could go back I would as some more detail to the snake. I think it should show something that looks cool but it also useful and should not just be something to look at. I think that the hardest part for me was glazing. I say that because I was having a hard time keeping the blackish off of the snake.

Kaylie Devine "Flying Colors"

9x7x2.5 Stoneware & Glass 2022

My idea was at first to have a butterfly. However, once the butterfly was finished I decided that wasn't enough so I made the bottom that you can put stuff in and the butterfly part is now a lid. I wanted to have all different colors all around so it looks different and stands out. If I could go back I would change the bottom left-hand side color because I thought it was going to be more of a yellow. So that means I would also change the whole bottom color of the butterfly base. When someone looks at my work I want them to see it is colorful and useful. The hardest part was trying to have the top and bottom fully line up because once I made the base taller it was harder to make them the same shape.

Kaylie Devine "Tin Foil Bowl"

5x5x1 Stoneware & Glass 2022

My idea was I just wanted to have a small plain bowl. I didn't want to do anything super hard because it was one of my first few works on the wheel. I wanted a simple but cool color. If I would go back I think I would put bigger boots on the bottom so it sits higher up. I hope when someone looks at my work they see something that was intended for use rather than look. And I think my hardest part was making it round instead of oval shaped.

Kaylie Devine "Tiny Vase"

2x1 Stoneware & Glass 2022

My idea was for this to be a super small vase you could keep one flower in. I wanted it to be the purple and red looking glaze which it is. If I could go back I would use more common sense and hollow out the middle more because I did not realize it wasn't very deep so now I am unable to use this work other than for looking at. When someone looks at my work I hope that they admire how awesome the color is with the different shades of different colors are all shown in it. The hardest part was the whole thing because this is one of my first projects on the wheel.
