Grace English's "Hunter"
(Size), Scratch art, 2026
Process: I started by tracing an outline of the cat onto the scratch art piece of paper. I then used some small scratch art tools and started making his right leg. I worked slowly and made sure not to rush. After I finished his under belly i worked on the black of his fur. To create the illusion that he was a black and white cat, I made sure to make the black lighter and more spaced out. After I finished all of the cat, I moved to make the illusion that he was sleeping on a blanket, or more specifically, a quilt. I made sure to be consistent with the lines that made up the quilt; I made them all face the same direction. I did this to make it easier to tell that my cat was sleeping on a quilt.
This artwork is a picture of a black-and-white cat; this cat's name is Hunter. he is a tuxedo cat and is meant to look like a fully grown cat in this picture. I made this artwork as a memorial for my cat, who died in late July of 2025. This artwork is a scratch art piece, creating hundreds of small marks on the paper to make the impression of fur. This artwork is very important to me because of how much the whole family loves and misses my cat. It's meant to be a realisum artwork with a good amount of detail.
Grace English's "Coffee Pot and Glass"
(Size), Chalk pastell, 2026
Process: This artwork started off with a rough draft of the three objects that were placed on the table in front of us. The instructions were to make a cubism artwork as if we could see directly through the objects on the table. After I made a rough sketch, I went to my final sheet of paper. I copied what I drew on my practice sheet onto my final sheet. After I had my outline, I then used warm and cool colors intentionally so that I could make them contrast with each other. After I finished adding color, I added lines to make the background stand out. I then outlined everything in Sharpie.
This artwork is a picture of a few glasses and pots. I did this artwork in the cubism style. The reason why I made this artwork is that I wanted to try my 'luck' with chalk pastels, and I've been wanting to try Cubism for a while now. This artwork took me about two weeks of class time to complete. This artwork is important to me because it was officially my first time trying to abstract something in an artwork.
Grace English's "Mouse Chace"
(Size), Pencil, 2026
Process: This artwork is my baseline sketch. I first found some images that I thought looked cool, and I felt like I could include them all in a competition, and I felt like it was coherent. After I found my images, I put them all together in my mind, and then it was simply a matter of sketching them out on paper. After I sketched it out lightly, I went over it with my pencil again, but I made sure to exaggerate the lines and make them darker than before.
This artwork is a picture of three animals (one a dog, one a cat, and one a mouse) and a block of cheese. I did this artwork in my own style. I'd call it cartoonish, but my artwork wasn't meant to be realistic. The reason why I made this artwork is that I wanted to make an artwork representing the 'food chain' in the business aspect. This artwork took me about three days of class time to complete. This artwork is important to me because this was one of my first time perpously makeing a artwork in my style.
Grace English's "Mouse Chace 2"
(Size), Pencil, 2026
Process: This artwork is my finnishline sketch. I first started with my original sketch as a guideline for what I'm trying to recreate. After I had that laid out, I looked at all of my original reference photos and attempted to make all the animals simplistic but more proportional and a tad more realistic.
This artwork is a picture of three animals (one a dog, one a cat, one a mouse, and a block of cheese). I did this artwork in my own style. I made this artwork to see how much i inproved this semester.
Grace English's "Sunset"
(Size), Acrylic Painting, 2026
Process: When I first started this project, I wanted the medium to be colored pencils, but after I colored a bit of it with colored pencils, the surface of the paper was starting to thin and look less vibrant, so I decided to change direction and use paint. When I started to paint, I worked on the sunset in the mirror and slowly worked my way to the outside.
This artwork is meant to be the reflection of a grey car in a rear-view mirror. I made this artwork because I loved the photo I originally took of the car, and I felt like it would look good and be a good picture to paint.
