Unlocking the Key to Art
9x12, Pencil, 2026
I got the idea to do this through some sketch ideas I looked up. I put them together, and I got something that combines all of them and creates a meaning to art. It evolved from just an eye, then flowers in the eye, and the key also in the pupil. All these concepts and pictures together brought my artwork to life.
(PROCESS) Explain your process. What tools and techniques did you use? I used a pencil, eraser, and my fingers to blend the pencil out. I didn't know blending sticks were a thing before this class, and all I knew was using my fingers helped blend and make contrast throughout my whole drawing. I started off drawing the eye and the flower pot as the pupil of the eye.
(SYMBOLISM & ICONOGRAPHY) This artwork means that I am really trying to exceed in art. I am trying to do the best I can and unlock new possibilities on what I can do in class. I want my audience to think about how they can do better and be better in drawing and exceed their limits. There are some symbolic moments in this piece through the flowers, the eye and the key, it sends out a powerful message.
(ARTISTIC GROWTH) The most difficult part for me was blending everything out and making it look like one big picture, not multiple in one. I overcame this by making this look more blended by using my fingers and making it look more realistic. I would change the positioning of the key in the eye, and make both the flowers and the key more equally centered.
(VISUAL VOICE) This is a realistic piece of art. I tried to make it realistic as I could. It makes it unique because in every piece of art that I make, I try to make it have a message. Not just a piece of art, but a story or a lesson being told through the art. I love the message I conveyed through my art, and I think it was a very good first drawing in class.
Disney Dreamin'
12x18, Graphite/Pencil, 2026
(IDEA) My idea for this artwork was to draw a realistic picture of me from California and when I was at Disneyland. I got the idea because of all of the cool graphics and how the balloons in the picture looked. I thought it would look very cool as a drawing. The inspiration was the realisticness of the balloons and of what I looked like in the photo.
(PROCESS) The process wasn't easy! I started by drawing the ground, and the outlines of the balloons. Then, I went into shadows in the back of the picture behind me and the lantern in the back. I then went into the shading in my body and the balloons. It was complicated to make everything go together and look good together, but it definitely came together. I used a shading pencil, pencil, and eraser to draw and blend everything.
(SYMBOLISM & ICONOGRAPHY) The meaning behind this artwork is that we went to California to see my dad after 3 weeks of not seeing him. It meant a lot to go on a trip with him in California, and see him again. I want the audience to think about the happy moments that it being interpretted through this drawing and through the meaning.
(ARTISTIC GROWTH) The most difficult part was the face for me. It was very hard to make it look reaistic and make the face look like the actual picture. I overcame it by trying to shade it into the face. If I started over, I would try to make it look more realistic.
(VISUAL VOICE) The style is realistic. I tried to make it as realistic as possible. I made it unique because of the cartoons on the balloon and I made them my style. I love the way the balloons came out all bunched and how they all looked by eachother.
Still Life Drawing
9x12, Chalk Pastels, 2026
(IDEA) My idea was for Mrs. Davis' assignment, we had to draw 3 objects overlapping with each other and add colors and designs to it. It evolved very well and got better as I kept going.
(PROCESS) The process at first was to draw the objects. Then, I put lines in between all of the objects for the different patterns and colors to go. I then filled them in with a different color each time. After that was done, I carefully drew in the designs. Then, I traced with sharpie. I used many times a paper towel to blend out the different colors well and make them look good together.
(SYMBOLISM & ICONOGRAPHY) The artwork means you can make anything abstract and into art if you are creative and open minded to trying new things to draw. I want them to think about what the original objects looked like and how they now look different.
(ARTISTIC GROWTH) Most difficult for me was the colors smearing into each other and overlapping. I struggled with this because it just made it insanely hard to even add a new color to the artwork without it mixing. I overcame it by using more blending techniques and using paper towels to seperate the colors. I think my artwork went good, and I wouldn't change anything about my work.
(VISUAL VOICE) This is a still-life abstract drawing. It makes it my personal style because of the colors and desgins used. They were the ones I thought of using to make the viewers like my work. I love how it turned out in general.
