"Travis Astro"
11x14, Graphite, 2020
For my first drawing, I chose the album cover for Astro World by Travis Scott. I thought it was a pretty cool looking cover and came up with a decent sketch. To begin my process, I chose to use graphite pencil on a 11x14 white piece of paper. I first drew the outline of his head, then moved to the people in the picture. After that, I added lots of shading and the words on the top and bottom. There is no symbolism in my drawing, I just want people to look at it and say “hey! I like that album,” and walk away. The most difficult part drawing would be getting the perfect shape of the Travis head. It was hard to get it just right, any slight deviation from the original photo made it look wonky, so I had to be exact. If I were to start over I would probably fix the people. I can never capture facial expressions and they just look creepy. The style of art would be realistic. Finally, the thing I love the most would have to be the depth in the drawing. I also really love his music.
Paul Duray “Lil Peep”
10x16, Colored Pencil, 2020
Around three years ago I listened to Star Shopping by Lil Peep while driving with my brother, Guy for the first time. I immediately fell in love with his music and ever since then I have listened to him. His music is so different I just want to show everyone, although I do regret showing some people. It has helped me through some of the roughest parts of my life, my biggest regrets, and the most terrible situations which is why I picked to draw him. To begin my drawing I made a rough outline of him on a black piece of paper. From there I started to fill everything in with color starting with his right ear all the way to his left ear. There is no symbolism or imagery in this work. The hardest part of the drawing was the crybaby tattoo over his left eye, which I had a lot of help to shape. If I were to change something, it would be his nose ring. I would make it look much better. The drawing is realistic and what I love most about it is the attention to detail.
Paul Duray “Monke”
11x14, Scratch Art, 2021
For my final drawing I chose to draw a monkey. I really like monkey’s so I thought it would be pretty fun to draw. To begin, I made an outline using some powder paper. I started with the basic outline of his head and moved into the finer details on his face and eyes. Finally, I took the scratching tool and finished the drawing on the actual scratch paper. This drawing has no symbols or meanings, I just want people to see my monkey. The most difficult part of the drawing would have to be the fine details and getting the correct color. With scratch art, you can’t really get a gray color unless you space out your lines which is what I did. If I were to change something, it would be the picture itself. I feel like I could try a harder picture and still do an okay job. The style of art would be realistic and the thing I love most about it is that it’s a monkey.
