Mateo Perez, Chess Pieces

9x12, Graphite on paper, 2021

The idea I did was two Chess Pieces in black and white. I got the idea of one of my favorite games to play.

The tools and techniques I used was a blending stick, and a pencil

I think that the artwork means that anyone can play this game with these pieces. I want my audience to think about how kind of hard it is to do this on my own. I don't think there is any symbolic in it because it's just two chess pieces.

The most difficult part for me was shading the spots in. I overcame it by focusing on the ones that needed shaded. What I would change is the shadow part.

The style is realistic. The thing that makes it unique is how it kind of looks like the picture. What I love about it is how its in black and white.

Mateo Perez, The Blue Jay

9x12, Graphite on paper, 2021

The idea I did for my artwork was a Blue Jay standing on a log. I got the idea by looking it up and thought of a Blue Jay in my favorite cartoon, I think it evolved by the color in black and white.

The tools and techniques I used was a blending stick, and a pencil

The artwork means that it is based on in real life an actual Blue Jay. I want my audience to know that it wasn't hard to do on my own. I don't think there is any symbolic in it because it is just a blue bird.

The most difficult part for me in this work was outlining it. I overcame it by concentrating on what I was doing very carefully. What I would change to start over is the claws.

The style of art is Realistic. The thing that makes it unique is how it looks. What I love about it is how I did on the face.

Mateo Perez, Beach Trees

9x12, Graphite on paper, 2021

My idea is a small beach with it’s huge trees. I just got the idea by looking up color drawing and this was the first that popped up, I think it evolved by the number of colors I used on it.

The tools and techniques that I used were color pencils, and a mechanical pencil.

The artwork means that anyone can probably draw this in color. I want my audience to think that beaches are places to relax in. I think there is and that is the huge beach trees.

The most difficult part for me was making the trees and coloring the ground. I overcame the struggles by working hard like I did with my other two drawings. The thing I would change is the little trees on the bottom of the big trees.

The kind of style of the artwork is realistic because these kinds of trees exist in real life. The thing that makes it unique in my personal style is the color. What I love about it is the colors I did on the sky

Mateo Perez, Joaquin Phoenix

9x12, Graphite on Paper, 2021

. My idea is a self portrait of Joaquin Phoenix from the movie Joker. I got the idea by just looking up self portraits and this artwork was one of the first that popped up, I think it evolved by how real it looks.

The tools that I used were a mechanical pencil, and a blending stick.

The artwork means that it's an actor from one of his amazing films of all time. I want my audience to think about how hard this was to draw and I had to make it look real. I think there is imagery work and it's the part where its Joaquin Phoenix

The most difficult part was the eyes and the hair. I overcame my struggles by asking for help and not sitting there and doing nothing. The thing I would change is the forehead.

The style is realistic. The thing that makes it unique is everything about it. What I love about it is the hair.
