My idea for this project was based on a picture that I had from showing cattle. I added a grid to the original picture and then began to shade and blend on a separate paper to create the cow. The progress for this was first to add the gridline to the original picture. I then printed out the picture and sketched gridlines onto the paper. Then, I began sketching the outline of the cow and the outline of my body. After the outline was finished, I started shading to add details to the cow to create dimension. I also added shading to the shirt and pants. Once the details on both were completed, I shaded the background darker to make the cow and myself stand out. Finally, I finished by lightly shading the ground and adding details to add dimension to make it look like we were sinking into it. This relates to my life as it is a picture of myself doing something I enjoy. The symbolic imagery in this is that it relates very closely to my life outside of school. The most difficult part of this project was adding enough shading and detail to create accurate dimensions for the cow. I overcame this by continuing to blend and shade to make the cow look more 3D. If I were to start over, I would make the white parts on the cow whiter to make them stand out more compared to the other parts. I tried for a realistic style of art as I tried to replicate a picture that was already created. I like that it is a representation of something that I enjoy doing.
My inspiration for this piece was based on an observation from a picture of ice cream. My idea was to replicate the image with colored pencils. Once I chose what card I wanted to draw, I began finding colored pencils that were similar to the colors on the card. I then began sketching the outline of the cone and using a darker shade of tan color to make it look more indented. Once the cone was created, I started working on the ice cream part. I started with the outline of it and then moved into adding darker shades to try to make it look more realistic. I then took a white colored pencil to blend in some of the areas on the ice cream to make it look smoother. Lastly, I colored in the background with a black colored pencil and a tan colored pencil in the lower right corner to match the card. There is not really any symbolism or symbolic imagery as the goal was to replicate what was on the card I drew. The most difficult part was trying to blend with the colored pencils. It was also hard to make the texture look realistic on the ice cream. To overcome this, I continued to add layers of color and went back in with a white colored pencil to blend in the areas. If I were to start over, I would redo the ice cream and use more colors to make some areas stand out from one another. This art is a realistic style as it is replicating a real object. I liked that it was something new to me as I typically do not draw with colored pencils as much.
My idea for this piece was to create a sunset with chalk based on a picture that I found. I started by drawing light gridlines on the paper to give a rough idea of where the tree should be placed and where the different colors should start and end. I then started on the background with the yellow and orange chalk. Once I was done blending those in the areas I wanted them to be, I started with the top blues. I started with a lighter blue closer to the yellow and then made it darker towards the top. I then added the blue at the bottom below the sunset. I also added some purple into this area to make it a slightly different color than what the sky color was. Lastly, I went in with black chalk to color the bottom and used a black chalk pencil to do the smaller details on the tree and its branches. I think the artwork is relaxing because sunsets can sometimes represent a sense of calmness. The most difficult part was making the yellow and orange stand out and not getting any of the blue or black blended into it too far. I overcame this by getting it sprayed and making sure I did not touch those areas before I added yellow again. If I were to change anything, I would add brighter spots of yellow around the tree to make it look more like the sun is setting behind it. I would also add in more blue on the bottom where it leads into the black because there is still a thin white line. I tried for a realistic art style as I was recreating a sunset and a picture that was already created. I liked trying the chalk as it was something new to me.
