I chose this image of me and my mom at the park because it shows a loving moment between us. Even though I was too young to remember this moment, I like how it shows the closeness and care. I thought it would be meaningful to paint because it's a nice memory that my mom looks back on, and I wanted to make it more special through my art. The setting in nature and gentle colors also made it a peaceful and fun image to work on.
For this painting, I used acrylic paint for the entire piece. I started by working on the background, first painting the trees and then the water. After that, I began painting myself, starting with my body and shirt. Next, I focused on my hair and my face, although I had to redo my face several times and had some help until I was finally happy with it. Once I finished that part, I moved on to my mom, first painting her shirt and then her hair. Toward the end, I added all the small details to bring the painting together. This painting took a lot of time, specifically a whole semester, but I learned a lot through each stage of this process.
This artwork is meaningful because it shows a caring moment between my mom and me. I hope when people look at it, they think about their own family or someone important to them. To me, the water and trees can add peace and a calmness that wouldn't be there without them.
The most difficult part of this painting was working on the faces, especially mine. It was hard to get the shape and details right, and I ended up redoing my face many times before really being happy with it. I overcame the struggle by being patient and taking my time, and even got help from my teacher. If I started over, I think I would plan out the faces more carefully at the beginning. This would've saved me time and made the process go by smoother.
The style of this painting is a realistic representation of me and my mom. It's unique to me because the picture was taken somewhere my mother grew up. I love the comfort of this mother-daughter moment between us and the calm scenery. I love the mixture of calm colors and fun colors shown on my shirt. It shows my fun childhood in a sweet picture.
This is a watercolor painting of a landscape. The reference was a photo I took in Oklahoma for a summer trip. I think the blending could have been a little neater in the sky at sunset. I also think that the layering of the mountains doesn't look very real. In my opinion, the birds add a good touch as they were not in the original photograph.
