After sketching I added my own spin to make it more original. The outcome was a steampunk style bat. I painted the background first. Next I sketched it out and started painting it. The painting is a mix of the natural and mechanical worlds. The face was most difficult for me because it was so detailed. If I started over I would change the wings and make them more symmetrical. I really love the simplicity of the painting. The style is not quite realistic and not quite abstract.
