Sunflower, 6x10inches, 2026
My idea was to create a small sunflower artwork that feels cheerful and handmade. I chose a sunflower because it represents happiness, growth, and positivity. I was inspired by nature and how sunflowers always turn toward the sunlight. I also liked the contrast between the bright yellow flower and the cool turquoise background.
The idea evolved as I worked because I first planned to make only the flower, but then I added the lined background and small branch details to make the piece feel more complete and balanced. I was inspired by simple floral artwork and decorative ceramic pieces that use bold colors and texture.
I created this artwork using clay for the base and sunflower petals. I shaped each petal by hand and layered them around the center to create depth and texture. After the clay dried, I painted the background turquoise and used yellow and brown acrylic paint for the sunflower.
The most difficult part was shaping the petals evenly and attaching them without breaking the clay. Some petals cracked or became uneven while drying. I overcame this by working slowly and layering the petals carefully.
Large Vessel Sculpture
My idea for this piece came from my interest in nature, especially bees and their importance to the environment.
I started by using a coil press to make lots of coils, then I placed them perfectly, making a cylinder
