My idea for the magnet was to make food because I was hungry that day. I made a piece of cheesecake with sprinkles on top. I formed the cheesecake shapes. Next the clay was baked in the small oven. Last step was painting the colors and details. I chose cheesecake because I have never gotten to try it. It is something I would like to try eventually. It was very difficult to make something so small. If I started over I'd probably make it a little larger because it is really small. I really love the colors and how the paint turned out. I could not find the colors I wanted and I had to mix everything myself. It did turn ot really well though, so I am happy with it.
My idea for the 3D painting was to make something that resembles outside and nature. When I was thinking of nature I thought of grass, clouds, water and a bird. I made a slab of clay and drew in details. I made some parts 3D and carved out the heaviest areas of clay. When it dried it was fired and I glazed it. When I think of nature I think of grass, trees, water, rivers and all the animals. If I started over I may change the colors of the clouds. I would make them bright white. I really love how it looks. I think most of it turned out really good. The style of this is abstract because the shaped are intentionally simplified.
I wanted to make a really big vase that was at least 18" tall. I started with the coils and smoothed out all the coils until every coil was eliminated. After the vase was smooth I started adding flowers, vines, and a bunch of flowers. The theme of the vase is the beauty of nature. Next it dried and was fired. The last part is to glaze it. I glazed it with 3 coats of all fdifferent colored glazes. If I started over I would change the shape of the vase. I would make it smaller as it got closer to the top. Currently the top and botom of the vase are the same size. I really love how the designs all turned out.
I wanted to learn how to use the pottery wheel. I practiced on the wheel 2 days and also trimmed the work another day. Every time I made a small bowl. First I centered the clay. Next I opened the clay up. I shaped the bowl. When the bowl dried up a little I trimmed it on the wheel. After it was fired I glazed the different pots different colors. I plan to use these small bowls. I want to use one of them as a candle holder. I can use the rest to collect things. I can use them as candy dishes, or for jewelry or keys. If I started over I'd make a little bigger bowl to eat food out of. I really like the colors of all the glazes.
