Alice Sechrest's "Storm Cloud"
9” x 12”, Acrylic Paints, Sharpie, Pencil, Paintbrushes, Paper, 2021
Originally my idea was to capture a swarming cloud of dark blues and light grays in a “glass” bottle. But I figured I would give it a ‘bit more character. I had actually taken a sketch from online and took the light bulb with the tree roots inside. The process I took to create my piece took about a week of classes in total. First I started my basic drawing of the empty light bulb and roots. Then I went through and added the clouds, trees, and ground landscape. Thirdly I went through and added the fire and lightning bolts throughout the middle and bottom of the bulb. After I did my basic drawing I traced it onto my painting sheet paper. I outlined it in a thin sharpie and soon after had started painting. The painting of the entire piece took maybe five to six class periods in total.
