Alexia Block “Sunflower”
12”, 18”, Acrylic on Paper, 2018
The sunflower is my favorite flower because it’s yellow and yellow is one of my favorite colors because it gives off a happy vibe. I’ve always liked painting flowers but the sunflower is my favorite and that’s how I got my idea. I wanted to start off with a simple, easy painting so I thought a sunflower would be perfect. I originally had the sunflower by itself with a plain baby blue background but then I thought I would add some color to the background to give it a pop of color. One thing I want my audience to know about my painting is that it’s suppose to give off a happy vibe. If I were to start over I would change the background and change up the colors and pattern. My favorite thing about my painting is the sunflower itself because I like simply paintings.
Alexia Block “Peace”
12”x 18”, Acrylic on Paper, 2018
I got my idea from a picture that I took in the summer and I thought the sky looked really pretty so I thought it would be a good idea to paint it. I want the audience to notice the sky and all of the colors that are in it. I also tried to make it bright to resemble peace and happiness. If I were to start over I would change the blending style of the sky. My favorite thing about my piece are the bright colors in the sky and how they blend together.
Alexia Block “Divided Sky”
8”, 11”, Acrylic on Paper, 2018
I got my idea from a painting that I saw a while ago at a friends house and I really liked it. I want the audience to notice the blending in the sun, moon, and even the sky behind it. If I were to start over I would change the sun and moon and put little designs and patterns in it. My favorite thing about my piece is the blending of the sky, sun, and moon.
Alexia Block “Rainbow Jellyfish”
9”x 12”, Watercolor on paper, 2018
I got my idea from a picture I found on the internet that had jellyfish so I decided I wanted to recreate it and make it colorful. I really like the ocean and all of the creatures in it so I thought it fit me well. If I were to change anything it would probably be the water because I would add bubbles and more objects to it. The one thing I love about my artwork is all of the bright colors of the tentacles and how they blend together.
Alexia Block “Calm Beach”
Acrylic on Recycled Canvas, 2019
I got my idea from a trip I recently went on to Mexico. I want my audience to see how simple it is but also how all of the colors flow together nicely and is very calming. If I were to start over I would add more trees or more things in the distance like a sailboat in the ocean. The thing I love most about this painting is the texture of the palm tree and how all of the colors blend together nicely.
