Good Programs and
Methods to Try

Listed below are some fun, free ways to change up learning, especially online. If the titles are underlined, it means we have a helper page set up for that program. We are building this section out over the next few weeks with more screencasts and platforms.

Programs we may already be using to deliver instruction

Flipgrid

A social learning platform that allows educators to ask a question, then the students respond in a video. Students are then able to respond to one another, creating a “web” of discussion

Screencast-O-Matic

A free screen recorder is used by millions around the world, from educators to businesses to bloggers.

Screencastify

An ultra simple screen recorder that will supercharge the way you communicate at work. Record, edit and share HD videos in seconds.

Nearpod

An award-winning student engagement platform with ready-to-run interactive lessons for K-12 teachers.

Pear Deck Slides

Very similar to a PowerPoint or Google Slides presentation. But instead of simply static, informational slides, you get to create Interactive Slides that let every student respond to your questions or prompts. When you present your Deck, students get a unique Join Code to enter your presentation right from their own devices. (can be student-run)

Methods we may be used to using

Task Cards

A task card is a small card (usually about the size of an index card or smaller - or the size of a google slide) and has an activity or question on it.

HyperDocs

A transformative, interactive Google Doc replacing the worksheet method of delivering instruction, is the ultimate change agent in the blended learning classroom.

Play Lists

A playlist is a sequence of resources and/or activities for students to complete. When we ask students to complete multi-faceted independent activities, a playlist serves as guidance and sequencing without real-time teacher actions.

Learning menus

(aka choice boards) are a form of differentiated learning that gives students a menu or choice of learning activities. Learning menus and choice boards can be created in a variety of styles and mediums.
