Comprehensive School Counseling Program
Comprehensive School Counseling Program
TIER 1
School-wide Events & SEL Lessons
School counselors provide social emotional learning (SEL) presentations to all students (year-round). The topics presented fall within the three school counseling domains: academic, social-emotional, college & career.
Because requests can accommodate a specific grade and/or individual class need, SEL lessons may also serve as Tier 2 intervention.
The goal is to ensure that all students leave El Rincon Elementary School with the attitudes, knowledge, and skills to be successful in middle school, high school and in their post-secondary endeavors.
In order to help with the development of these skills, all CCUSD elementary school counselors will provide similar themed monthly activities to support students in honing specific academic, college/career, and social-emotional development skills.
TIER 2 & 3
Small Group & Individual Counseling
Based on student need, school counselors may provide individual (Tier 3) student counseling for academic, college/career, and social-emotional development.
Some topics are presented in a small group (Tier 2), with two to four students, to ensure that students are gaining the necessary tools to be successful at El Rincon Elementary School as well as in their transition to middle school.

Confidentiality
School counselors have a primary obligation to ensure confidentiality with their client, the student. Any student working with the school counselor has the right to privacy and the promise of confidentiality. In order to ensure meaningful and honest dialogue within the counseling relationship, the student must be able to have trust and confidence in the school counselor.
At the beginning of the school year, and prior to each session, all students and families are made aware of the confidentiality statement and exceptions. Exceptions to confidentiality exist in which the counselor must inform others of this information in order to prevent "serious or foreseeable harm" to the student, others, or if "legally required."
