Disability Awareness Month Counselor Assembly Video
As many of you already know, my name is Sophie Dougadir, and I am proud to be your child’s school counselor. I am committed to encouraging, supporting, and empowering our students to become their best selves. As a school counselor, I have the privilege of providing support to every student at Farragut. My primary task is to help all students become better learners by providing a comprehensive school counseling program that meets their academic, personal/social, and college/career development needs. I meet with students in small groups, as well as in the classrooms where I conduct lessons, as well as organizing school-wide activities to meet the needs of our school community. I also work on behalf of students as a team member - collaborating with parents and staff. When the need is high, I conduct short-term individual counseling sessions with students.
The support I provide can be therapeutic, however the role of a school counselor is not to diagnose or provide therapy. I am able to provide short-term support to help students overcome issues having an impact on their school performance and overall well-being. If the scope of the concern requires more long-term support, I am happy to help connect students and families with outside mental health resources.
If you would like to refer your student for school counseling services you must first complete a school counseling referral form. Email me at sophiadougadir@ccusd.org and I will send you a digital copy of this form. You can also find it at the bottom of this website's main page. If I decide to move forward with services, an informed consent form will be sent home for you to sign.
As a general rule, CCUSD elementary school counselors will keep the information your child shares with us in our sessions confidential, as would be expected in a traditional school setting, with a few exceptions. Confidentiality cannot be maintained when:
Your child discloses a plan to cause serious harm to themselves.
Your child discloses a plan to cause harm to others.
Your child discloses they are being harmed by someone else.
Another exception to this rule is when a student gives the School Counselor permission to share what has been discussed with a trusted adult, such as a parent/guardian, teacher, or administrator.
I am thrilled to be returning to the amazing Farragut community. Be on the lookout for monthly school counseling newsletters from me in the Foxy Flyer, as well as information about other school counseling programs and parent workshops throughout the year. Looking forward to seeing you all soon!
Sincerely,
Sophie Dougadir, M.Ed., PPS
