Bridge Math
Course Description
This course is designed to review algebraic and geometric concepts. It develops algebra skills such as systems of equations, polynomials, imaginary and complex numbers, quadratics and concepts and includes the study of trigonometric functions. The contents of this course are important for students’ success on both the ACT and college mathematics entrance exams. Students must complete Bridge Math in order to receive their fourth year math credit. This credit is required for graduation.
SAILS Math Course Description
SAILS Math or Seamless Alignment and Integrated Learning Support is a class offered by Motlow State Community College. This class is designed for those students who scored below a 19 on the ACT math sub-score and plan on attending college. Completion of SAILS is equivalent to scoring a 19 on the ACT math sub-score. This score will be used for placement purposes at all Tennessee Community Colleges and some Universities, both public and private.
The course consists of concepts in Algebra I and II such as Real Numbers, Equations and Inequalities, and Linear Graphing. Other concepts found in this course are related to Geometry such as Area, Triangle Trigonometry, and Properties of Angles. One of the Modules also contains Advanced Topics which is an extension of basic Algebra concepts.
Algebra 1 Course Description
Algebra 1 introduces students to variables, algebraic expressions, equations, functions, inequalities, and their multiple representations. The students develop the ability to explore and solve real-world application problems, demonstrate the appropriate use of graphing calculators, and communicate mathematical ideas clearly.
This course lays the foundation for every subsequent course in mathematics. Success in Algebra I must be encouraged and emphasized since it is an accurate indicator of future success.
Block Pacing is available to any student that would like to complete the course by Christmas.
Traditional Pacing is the year long pacing guide for students. Most students will choose this option.
