Algebra 2 - Course Description:
This course teaches how to evaluate expressions, write equations, graph functions, solve quadratics, and understand inequalities. This course focuses on a variety of different types of functions such as linear, quadratic, and cubic — all of which are represented in traditional “function notation” as well as graphed on the coordinate plane. Students will build conceptual understanding and gain procedural fluency of concepts that are required for more advanced math subjects. Abstracting real-life situations into mathematical models (expressions, equations, functions) is a key part of success in Algebra 2.

Cell Phone Policy:
Cell phones should be turned off and put away. If a cell phone is seen out, or is heard during class it will be taken. A phone caddy will be provided and encouraged to place your phone in the caddy as you enter class.
1st Offense: Phone is given back at the end of class and given a warning
2nd Offense: Phone will be placed in the phone cubby for 5 days when the student enters class.
After 2nd Offense: Phone will be taken to the office and will follow school policy.
Bathroom Policy:
Classroom Policy:
Students are expected to utilize time between classes to go to the bathroom. This class will allow the students to use the restroom 3 times per nine weeks.
Schoolwide Policy:
Each teacher will have 2 color-coded bathroom passes, one for female restroom and one for male restroom. Students must have a hall pass to leave class. Each hallway bathroom has a specific color, and students must go to the coordinating bathroom.
Textbook and Materials:
Carnegie Learning Algebra 2 (Provided in class)
Chromebook (Provided by the Library)
Composition Book
Pen or Pencil
Missed/ Late Work:
Students will be responsible for asking for their missing assignments. School policy will apply for number of days they get to make up the work.
Late work will be deducted 10 points per day and not accepted after 4 days.
Grading Scale: Grading Rubric:
Tests (65%) A = 90 -100
Homework (15%) B = 80 - 89
Composition Book/ Participation (20%) C = 70 - 79
Final Grade (100%) D = 60 - 69
F = Below 60
I = Incomplete
Participation:
Participation is a key part of this class. Participation in this course will include bringing all materials and being prepared for class with a composition book, pencil or pen, and textbook. Participation will also include taking notes, answering questions, and staying on task.
Assignments:
Homework will be posted on Google Classroom daily.
Students will be expected to keep a composition notebook for the whole year. This notebook will be checked periodically and counts as 20% of your grade.
Cheating:
Cheating will result in an automatic zero for that assignment.
Cheating on a test will result in a zero that day and the student will be able to make up the test for a lower grade another time.
