1. Reading Engagement

Our school has a wonderful library collection for students and teachers and all Utah residents have access to electronic resources through their public library. Look at the Electronic Resources & eBooks page for instructions on how to use some of the resources.

See the documents below for recommendations of books to read at home (compiled with the help of Sunrise faculty) and for lists of read-alikes.

2. Information and Research

Many people think of research when they think of libraries but instead of looking for good books we now also need to be able to find good, trustworthy websites. The following document is also under the "Electronic Resources" section of this library site but it is good enough to put up in two places.

Sites on Utah's Online Library are great for research or for fun!

3. Media Literacy and Digital Citizenship

Media Literacy is one of the three main areas of Utah's Elementary Library Media Standards and in 2015 the state legislature passed the, Safe Technology Utilization and Digital Citizenship in Public Schools. Our district has decided to use the resources and lesson plans offered through Common Sense Media to help teach digital citizenship skills and meet the requirements in that bill. Explore their website for some great teaching and discussion tools. Below are a few of their family tip sheets that give suggestions on how families can address these important issues.

Here are some of their interactive games for students to learn about and practice good digital citizenship.
