Special education provides students with identified disabilities specialized instruction designed to meet their unique learning needs, giving them the opportunity to develop to their fullest potential. In the United States, special education is delivered, free of charge, through the public education system, thanks to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). *IDEA*
Connetquot HS Special Education programs provides services, supports, programs, and placements or environments to assist each child maximize their potential to be successful learners. Our students receive special education services for additional support both inside and outside the classroom. Special education is governed by New York State Regulations and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), a federal law that defines special education as “specifically designed instruction to meet the unique needs of a child with a disability”. In order to be eligible for special education services, a student’s performance in school must be negatively impacted by a specific physical, social/emotional, or learning disability. The services that a child with a disability receives are determined based on their specific, individual needs.
