Full Year Course, 1.0 credit

Description: This course follows the New York State Science Learning Standards for Earth and Space Sciences. Emphasis in this course will be placed on an investigative approach. A major portion of the course is spent on laboratory activities. Students must complete 1200 minutes of laboratory investigations, including mandatory state lab investigations as guided by NYSED, to be eligible to take the Regents exam. All students enrolled in this course are required to take the Earth and Space Sciences Regents Examination. This class meets 7.5 periods per week.

Regents Exam: Earth and Space Sciences

Full Year Course, 1.0 credit

Description: This course follows the New York State Science Learning Standards in Life Science: Biology. It involves the study of living things from the molecular level to communities and biomes. Special attention is also given to the areas of biochemistry, ecology, and reproduction and development. Students must complete 1200 minutes of laboratory investigations, including mandatory state lab investigations as guided by NYSED, to be eligible to take the Regents exam. All students enrolled in this course are required to take the Life Science: Biology Regents Examination. This class meets 7.5 periods per week.

Regents Exam: Life Science: Biology 

Full Year Course, 1.0 credit

Prerequisites: Enrollment in 8th grade Accelerated Earth and Space Sciences; a 90 test average each marking period; and a 90 or higher on the Earth and Space Sciences Regents Exam. Each marking period, students who are enrolled in Earth and Space Sciences must have a test average of 90 or higher in Earth Science and in Algebra, miss no more than two assignments each marking period and score a 90 or higher on the Earth and Space Sciences Regents Exam. 

Description:  This course offers an in-depth survey of college preparatory material for students who have demonstrated ability in science through a high performance in middle school science. The course is designed for those students who plan to pursue AP science courses. Students must complete 1200 minutes of laboratory investigations, including mandatory state lab investigations as guided by NYSED, to be eligible to take the Life Science: Biology Regents Examination. All students enrolled in this course are required to take the Life Science: Biology Regents Examination. This class meets 7.5 periods per week. This course has a summer assignment.

Regents Exam: Life Science: Biology

Prerequisites: Completion of Honors Life Science: Biology, Earth and Space Sciences, and Algebra with quarterly test averages, final grades and Regents exam grades of 90 or higher. Students must receive a recommendation from their Honors Life Science: Biology teacher as having demonstrated exceptional ability in science. 

Description: This course is designed for those students who plan to pursue AP science courses. Emphasis will be placed on a student's problem solving and reasoning in all topics covered. Students will take a departmental final and the Regents examination in Chemistry. Students must complete 1200 minutes of laboratory investigations, including state-mandated investigations as guided by NYSED, to be eligible to take the Regents examination in Chemistry. This class meets 7.5 periods per week. This course has a summer assignment.

Full-Year Course, 1.0 credit

Description: This course is adapted to provide for student needs and accommodations as specified in an Individual Education Plan (IEP). This course follows the New York State Science Learning Standards, focusing on physical science – chemistry and physics. Emphasis in this course will be placed on an investigative approach. A major portion of the course is spent on laboratory activities. This class meets 5 periods per week.

Full Year, 1.0 credit

Prerequisites: Successful completion of Regents Earth and Space Sciences, Regents Life Science: Biology, Regents Chemistry, Algebra and Geometry, and the recommendation of the Chemistry teacher. 

Description: Recommended for students planning to attend a 4-year college. This course follows the New York State Science Learning Standards in Physics. Laboratory work to illustrate and support physics concepts is carried out individually or in small groups. Students must complete 1200 minutes of laboratory investigations, including state-mandated investigations as guided by NYSED, to be eligible to take the Regents exam. All students completing the course are required to take the Regents examination in Physics. Successful completion of a physics course is suggested to enroll in any Advanced Placement science course. The class meets 7.5 periods per week.
