Welcome to the Cherokee Library! Students will come to library weekly to borrow books, but that is only one part of what happens in Library. Library skills are life skills and students are gaining the tools necessary to be productive citizens in the 21st century. They are learning information literacy skills including how to locate, evaluate, and utilize various resources to fulfill their information needs. They are becoming responsible digital citizens. And of course, they are developing an appreciation of a variety of genres of literature. We're looking forward to a great year!
Students choose one book each week to check out. When that book is returned, they can choose another. Children can choose to renew their book as well. While students are encouraged to choose “just right” books, sometimes a book that interests them is a little easier or harder than their “just right” reading level. That’s OK! Reading levels have their place in reading instruction but a love of reading is fostered by allowing children to choose what they want to read recreationally based on their interests. Please see the article linked below which addresses this topic.
