- Read the three poems in the document posted to the right and share with me your responses to the following questions.

  1. What feelings does the speaker in "The Desert Is My Mother" have for the desert? How do these feelings lead her to compare the desert with a mother? Support your answers with details from the poem.
  2. Think about "Maestro", "Bailando", and "The Desert Is My Mother". Which poem did you like best? Explain why, using examples from the poem you prefer.
  3. Think about the Big Question: What is the best way to communicate? In the three poems Pat Mora shows two ways to communicate. The maestro uses music. The aunt uses dancing. In as essay, explain which of these activities is a better way to communicate (music or dance). Support your answer with specific examples from the poems.
