All 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will participate in a Recorder Unit in Music during one trimester per year.
During this unit, students are assessed on their note reading and instrumental performance skills.
Practice at home at least 5-10 minutes per day is essential for improvement and learning the new notes, skills, and fingerings they are taught in Music.
Each song the student passes (meets or exceeds standards), they will earn a colored Recorder Karate belt. Students are expected to learn and pass at least 2 songs during the trimester.
Here is what your student receives when they purchase a recorder for $6:

Recorders are school supplies you keep and reuse for Music in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades.
Students can purchase a recorder at any time for $6. Some students pay for theirs when they register for 3rd grade or when they enroll in 4th or 5th grade. If you do not pay for one with registration, you will receive an email, or your child will be sent home with a notice to inform you. Contact the CSS main office to pay with a credit card over the phone -OR- send $6 cash or check payable to CCSD93 with your child. Please put money in an envelope labeled with:
