Reading and Writing
Rediscover the power of reading: Take time to relax and enjoy books. Spend time reading with your child even if it’s a cereal box, a recipe, or directions to a video game. Find time to read with your child, to your child and also time for your child to read independently. Let your child read what interests them. Student choice is a huge motivator for reading. Explore digital and ebooks available through school and library resources. Have your student write whenever possible! Write out a list, plans for the day, etc.

Math
Explore math in your environment: You may consider, keeping track of steps, locating mathematical shapes in nature, measuring and finding the area/perimeter of open spaces, exploring measurement while creating crafts or household projects. Discuss the math in video games, the game of golf, social distancing and other real life examples. Encourage your child to cook with you following recipes or even reducing or expanding measurements. Puzzles, card games, dice games are all fun and simple ways to sharpen students’ math and logic skills.

STEM and PBL
The Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest museum, education, and research complex. They are a community of learning and the opener of doors. Join them on a voyage of discovery and explore and learn online.
Although we are disappointed to not be able to offer Innovation Camp this summer, we are grateful for our continued partnership with the National Inventors Hall of Fame who have provided wonderful hands-on learning activities for our students to try at home.
This guide from the National Inventors Hall of Fame has specific learning activities. Try any of these or check out their own museum NIHF Museum Exhibits.
