Ms. Smeltzer

Miss Smeltzer

My name is Terri Smeltzer and I have been an Elementary Art Teacher in District 66 since 2000. I enjoy working with K-5 students as their imaginations are endless and their creativity is magical. I love that I am given the opportunity to begin and create the foundation of their artistic experiences which will develop throughout their lifetimes.

Education:

-Bachelor in Art Education from Eastern Illinois University

-Masters in Interdisciplinary Art from Columbia College Chicago

My Educational Philosophy:

K-2: Students are naturally creative and need support in learning various tools and experiences in Art. K-2 Art at Elizabeth Ide is all about gaining exposure and experience in Art to build a foundation for their creativity while developing their gross and fine motor skills.

3-5: Students are now at an age where they have had some experience creating and developing their visual ideas. In grades 3-5, we continue to explore and gain experience with various tools and procedures in Art. Students are encouraged to take their knowledge of Art and expand on learning art history, art styles, artistic craftsmanship, and art elements and principles of design.
