ABOUT THE LRC
My primary goal as an educator is to inspire my students to read, create, and consider themselves lifelong learners in order to help them acquire the skills they need to succeed in a changing, digital and creative world. I believe it is my responsibility to provide a well-organized environment that fosters students’ abilities to love reading, problem-solve critically, communicate expressively, and to use technology responsibly.
In order for students to be successful, I must set high expectations while providing a cross-curricular curriculum where all students have the opportunity to meet and exceed the LRC outcomes of Love of Reading, Digital Citizenship, Information Literacy, and STEAM. The curriculum needs to be flexible enough to incorporate different learning styles, abilities, and interests with learning activities that are active, hands-on, and personally relevant to students.
Students should be given choices and the responsibility to reach their highest potential. Learning should take place in a safe and comfortable LRC with established routines and consistent behavior management. As a teacher, I try to build relationships and trust with my students as they follow routines, stay accountable for their actions, learn from mistakes, and gradually become more independent. A sense of comfort, permission to make mistakes, and the freedom to work independently are all key components to student achievement and success in the LRC.
