Language Arts:
ELA: At the end of this week, we will have successfully finished our first novel! We are so proud of how our students have stayed current with their nightly reading, completed the summary post it notes consistently, as well as collaborate well with their book club members as they apply the various literary element mini-lessons. Next, we will have a wrap up project that will solidify their understanding of their novels while pulling textual evidence in addition to presenting their ideas to the class.
Advanced: This week, students have continued working on their narrative essays. Each day, we have reviewed an editing focus and students used class time to edit their drafts. Based on student feedback, the final due date is pushed to before class on Monday 9/22 so students can use the weekend to make any final edits, if needed. We will move onto our first book club next week.
Math:
General Math: We are preparing for an assessment this Friday. The assessment will cover transformations, congruent figures, and angle relationships. We will begin dilations next week.
Algebra: In Algebra, students have begun exploring linear relationships in multiple representations, including graphs, tables, equations and situations. They are continuing to develop their graphing skills and their equation writing skills.
Geometry: On Thursday, the students will be assessed on rigid transformations. Next week, the students will use Desmos tools to create constructions. This year District 21 is piloting Desmos Geometry while incorporating elements of the old curriculum that reinforces various algebra concepts.
Science: We have begun exploring the scientific phenomenon of plate tectonics. We will explore how the motion of different plate boundaries contribute to the creation and destruction of the crust. The next assessment will be Thursday, September 25th.
Social Studies: On Tuesday, the students took a quiz on the legislative branch of government. Now we are moving on to the executive branch. We will examine the different roles that the President fulfills. We will also study the executive departments and how they enforce federal laws. Also we will learn about the electoral college system, which we use to elect the President.
