Mindful Mondays, Tunes Tuesdays, Friday night football games, junior ball, prom, senior breakfasts, pep rallies, and volleyball tournaments. Where do we go from here? Life is pretty exciting here at Clarkstown High School North, but what happens when we leave this bubble? Let’s look at some people who made it big in the real world…

Skylar Astin: Class of 2005

Skylar Astin was born on September 23rd, 1987 in New York City. Growing up, he attended Stagedoor Manor, a summer camp for the performing arts. After spending his childhood in New City, New York, he graduated from Clarkstown North in 2005 and attended New York University’s performing, cinematic, and media arts school, Tisch School of the Arts. An aspiring actor, Astin booked his first role as George in the Original Broadway Cast Spring Awakening. Known for his singing, he notably had many solos in the musical, leading him to be casted for a role in the film Hamlet 2 in 2008 where he sang on the soundtrack. He was later signed to the United Talent Agency. He continued his onstage performances, playing Mark Cohen in Neil Patrick Harris’ production of Rent at the Hollywood Bowl. He made several small-screen appearances on shows such as Love Bites, Girls, and House. However, his breakthrough moment as an actor was playing Jesse Swanson in Pitch Perfect, the main character of the film’s love interest. For his role, he won the Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie Actor Comedy. When the Pitch Perfect sequel was released two years later, he won the same award for his work in the film. He continued to book roles in both films and shows alike, including 21 & Over and Ground Floor. As of today, he continues to work on television, playing a main role in the show Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist. As both a talented singer and actor, Astin has proved to have himself a successful, flourishing career from a young age.

Talk About a Throwback!

Recently, Skylar Astin reflected on his days as a ram. On September 30th, Astin shared a video to his instagram (@skylarastin) of him performing for North’s Cue and Curtain club 19 years ago! During his time at North, he played J. Pierrepont Finch in the musical How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. In 2018, he revived the same role in a production of the musical at the Kennedy Center. His Instagram post included two videos, one of him performing a song from the musical called “I Believe in You” at the age of 15 on the Clarkstown North stage, and one of him singing the same song at the age of 30 on the Kennedy Center stage! We are excited to see what roles this Remarkable Ram takes on next!
