The Nutcracker Shines on the Stage

Ava Brigando, Entertainment Co-Editor

As COVID-19 numbers go down, entertainment is on the rise. Many shows and plays have made a return to the big stage, live and in-person. However, many people (myself included), have a hard time coming to terms with the commute to New York City after over a year of online entertainment. Luckily, there are many opportunities available in Rockland that provide the same professional experience as those found in the city.

Rockland Youth Dance Ensemble’s The Nutcracker

Rockland Youth Dance Ensemble is conducting a production of The Nutcracker for their 52nd annual performance. The production gives a Christmas-like feel around the holidays, truly getting the audience in the Christmas spirit. The dancers have worked incredibly hard and many consider it “their favorite time of the year,” for it is the “Nutcracker season.” The Nutcracker tells the story of a young girl named Clara and what happens to her on the night of a Christmas Eve party her family throws in nineteenth century Nuremberg, Germany. That night, Clara is transported into a magical land within her dreams, where dolls dance for her and tell a tale of drama and excitement.

Performance Details

The productions take place on December 10th, 11th, and 12th, with six performances in total in the Rockland Community College auditorium. The auditorium has seats blocked off at half capacity to obey COVID-19 guidelines and keep everyone safe. The performance is only about 2 hours long, with an intermission in the middle if you have to leave early, and the variety of performance times ensure that everyone who wants to go will be able to. Each of the six performances have a different cast, so if you know someone in one of the shows, check with them to get their show information!
