The night: Friday, October 13. The location: movie theaters across the world. The audience: ecstatic to sing and dance along to their favorite songs. Friendship bracelets: traded. Merch: Bought. The feature? Taylor Swift’s newest concert, now taking over the big screen.

Starting on March 17, 2023, Taylor Swift started her newest stadium tour, The Eras Tour, in Glendale, NM. The concert features 44 songs with a runtime of 3+ hours. The songs come from a mix of Swift’s 10 albums; hence, the title of the tour.

“We are about to embark on an adventure spanning 17 years of music” Swift shares in her Lover era. Swift is best known for her different “eras” throughout her career. She has 10 studio albums, with each one representing a different stage of her life, complete with their own personas, color schemes, and aesthetics.

The concert was in extremely high demand, with 2 million tickets sold on the first day of the pre-sale. Ever since then, Swift has been grossing extremely high numbers, earning an average of $13 million in tickets every night of her concert. Despite the number of tickets sold, many fans were unable to grab tickets, and were forced to either skip the concert, or pay for tickets on the resale markets, where ticket prices reached heights of $13,000.

But fans were in luck. On August 31, Taylor Swift announced via Instagram that a filmed version of the concert would be hitting the silver screen. Rather than a traditional movie, Swift encouraged her fans to treat the feature like a concert, which includes dancing, singing, and costumes. To this end, millions of fans responded by showing up in glittery attire, loud voices, and their dancing shoes on.

This movie did drastically well on opening weekend, bringing in $92.8 million in the US, and $123.5 million worldwide. The film is the first concert film to gross more than $1 million; it’s also the highest grossing concert film of all time, beating out artists such as Justin Bieber and Michael Jackson.

Swift’s influence is one of such heights that have not been seen since the likes of Beatlemania. Although her main audience consists of teenage girls, the pop star has fans of all ages, races, and genders. Her music continues to break streaming records, while her tour, set to start back up internationally in November, is slated to make $4.1 billion, which would earn it the position of the highest grossing solo tour in history. You can say Taylor Swift…has got a pretty big reputation.
