She Got Her Driver's License Last Week, Now She's Taking Over the World!

If you’re a fan of pop, then I’ve got a new artist to add to your playlist! The new and upcoming pop singer Olivia Rodrigo has blown up on Spotify with her recent single “drivers license.” If you haven’t listened to it yet, I highly suggest it!  Her beautiful vocals and melodious rhythm are soon going to make another appearance in her debut album SOUR that is set to release for May 21st, 2021. Her album will include her iconic songs “deja vu” anddrivers license” as well as many new songs such as “brutal,” “good 4 u” and “jealousy, jealousy.” It feels exciting and refreshing to have new music to listen to. Everyone is excitedly anticipating the release of the new album.

“We worked really hard to make it super diverse,” Olivia Rodrigo said when answering a question about what to expect on her soon to be released album. “I feel really good about it.” The album, SOUR, will include a total of 11 different songs: “brutal;” “traitor;” “drivers license;” “1 step forward. 3 steps back;” “deja vu;” “good 4 u;” “enough for you;” “happier;” “jealousy, jealousy;” “favorite crime;” and “hope ur ok.” Recently, the trailer for her album was released and it truly displayed how much time and energy Rodrigo spent working on the songs. It showed her progress up to the photoshoots and recording of her already well known songs. It even gave us a sneak peak of the music video for the song “good 4 u” and has already captured many people's attention with its catchy and upbeat guitar and rhythm. Everyone has their calendars marked for this awaited album on May 21st.

Starting all the way from the age of 12, Rodrigo has always pursued songwriting and music. She began her career as an actress and you may recognize her from the Disney Channel series Bizaardvark in which she played the role of Paige Olvera. She later went on to her role in the Disney Plus Original High School Musical; The Musical; The series where her dream to become a singer soon came true. Her songwriting skills and vocal talent were acknowledged, and she wrote a song for the show called “All I Want.” She made a significant jump in the entertainment industry by releasing her debut single “drivers license” earlier in 2021. She was invited to perform her song on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon which was a big success, as well as an appearance on Saturday Night Live. She has accomplished so much at such a young age. 

Olivia Rodrigo has made many accomplishments and hopes to make more. Her songs have appealed to many members of Generation Z and she’s happy to have touched the hearts of so many fans that are growing in numbers. Being a Southeast Asian woman in the entertainment industry, she has inspired many young people of color who look up to her as a role model. In the future, Olivia looks forward to collaborating with famous artists Taylor Swift, Lorde and Gwen Stafani. She may even make a remix of “drivers license” with Harry Styles or Miley Cyrus. Olivia’s contribution to the genre of pop music is greatly appreciated and people look forward to listening to more of her songs.
