Taylor Swift, a singer, song-writer, and 20 time Grammy award winner released her 10th album titled Midnights on October 21st. Taylor started her musical career back in 2006, when she released her self-titled debut album. From then on, she quickly rose to fame and began winning award after award. Even after the masters of her music were stolen from her, she fought back, winning the rights to own her music and re-releasing her music under her own name. Midnights will be her 6th personally owned album out of her 10 total, leaving fans in anticipation of what re-release will be next.

What We Know

Before the album was released there was little to no information provided about it. Taylor simply stated that the album followed thirteen sleepless nights in her life, thirteen being her lucky number. Yet, soon enough, she took to TikTok and created Midnight Mayhem With Me: a bi-weekly game where she would randomly pick a number and announce the title of that track. She only released these at midnight and continued to make every track title announcement at that time, keeping fans in a constant state of anticipation. She later announced the highly anticipated collaboration between her and teen pop sensation, Lana Del Ray, as the 4th track on the album,

“Snow on the Beach.”

The Midnights Era

One of the things that makes Taylor swift so iconic is that everytime she releases music, fans say she enters a new era of her career. She adopts a fashion and hairstyle that represents the theme of that era and changes her social media accordingly. What makes the Midnights era so special is that it is the first time she truly got to showcase her themed outfits and style on social media since 2019. Due to Covid-19, she was unable to give her previous albums Folklore and Evermore a proper style or show. There were very few live performances from those albums. She has shown up to numerous events such as the VMA and the Graham Norton Show wearing midnight themed outfits. Many were inspired by her hit song Bejeweled and fans have taken to TikTok to recreate some of these outfits.

The Eras tour

On November 1st she announced she will embark on a world tour this upcoming year, called the Eras tour. In this tour she is planning to perform songs from every single one of her albums, making this her first world tour since the Reputation Stadium Tour in 2018. The Reputation Stadium Tour was the highest grossing tour in the United States, giving the eras Tour extremely high standards to live up to. However, she is currently receiving major backlash due to the selling of the tickets. She had fans sign up for a presale and 1.4 million pre-codes were sent to fan,s but 14 million people went to the ticketmaster website at the same time to buy tickets. Not only did the website crash and kick people out of the queue, but due to the overwhelming amount of tickets that were sold, there will be no sale to the general public, leaving fans enraged. Not only is it now impossible to get tickets, but if you want to buy them from a seller they go for over $800 per ticket. Swift is yet to respond to the criticisms, but fans have taken to social media to share their disappointment.

Overall, the album is a huge success with approximately 50,000 units being sold within the first hour of the presale being announced. Not only that, but she beat Harry Styles for most physical music copies sold, selling more than double his amount. Additionally, she received hundreds of thousands of downloads on music streaming platforms. Every single episode of Midnight Mayhem With Me has reached over 3 million views and her merchandise is almost all sold out already. Plus, she is the first artist in history to claim all ten spots on the Billboard 100 and she held those spots for two weeks. Considering these factors, it is needless to say that Midnights will go down in history as one of her biggest albums ever.
