The film has followed the past precedents established by the series; there are noteworthy performances, seen through Spider-Gwen and Miles Morales. With the rise of a new villain, Spot, Miles Morales’s and other Spider Mans’ fate are in trouble. The idea of transportation through multiple dimensions is explored within the movie, tainting at the struggles Miles must overcome in order to defeat Spot.
In terms of advancing the plot, there has been the implementation of new characters, such as Spider-Punk and Scarlet Spider, indicating that Miles’s story is not over yet. While balancing his personal life with being Spider Man, Miles has become an entirely different person; he has demonstrated emotional growth and maturity.
Some superhero aficionados have said the movie was underwhelming. But, since the movie contains so much content, Sony has decided to split the story line into two separate parts; Across the Spider-Verse was part 1. The movie, in some ways, lacked confrontation with the Spot; instead, it focused on Miles and his challenges with the other new Spider Mans that are introduced in the film.
The last minutes of the film are a cliffhanger, tainting what lies in the second film. After watching the movie, I realized that the series was turning darker--especially as Miles redefines what it is to be a hero and the extent to which he can save the people he loves the most.
I highly recommend watching Spider Man Across the Spider-Verse, however I would keep in mind that this film is one of two parts. Overall, the movie was enjoyable and I hope you watch this amazing movie, characterized by the phenomenal casting and animation.
