Socrates once stated, “Wonder is the beginning of wisdom.” Wisdom comes from experience which stems from being curious. You may have also heard the saying, “Knowledge is power,” and it is.

To obtain knowledge you go through experiences; as mentioned earlier, experiences lead to wisdom. If you are curious, ambitious, and willing to experience or try something new then try the She Leads STEM club. Want to know what this club is? What does the club do? What are the benefits of joining this club? If these were some of your questions, then keep reading to find out more.

This section is dedicated to answering questions and receiving background information about this club. As a member of this club, I have the information and resources necessary to answer the upcoming questions.

Q: What is STEM?

A: STEM is simply an acronym, which stands for science, technology, engineering, and math.

Q: What is this club?

A: This club is a non-profit organization helping to empower younger, future female leaders and scientists in STEM. The founder of this non-profit organization, which is not only a club at North but many other high schools, claims that women don’t play a big role in the STEM field. This is why this club is crucial to introducing and empowering younger girls to pursue a career in the STEM field.

Q: Who are the team leaders?

A: Here at North, we have a team of fabulous and talented leaders. The president of this club is Abby Arbel (junior), vice president Ariana Mercado (senior), Isabella Rivera (junior), and Ally Ericheva (sophomore).

Q: Benefits of joining this club?

A: This club is where you give back to the community. In this case, a community of passionate younger girls. Not only do you provide an experience for the younger generation, but you get a taste of what STEM is all about. And if you have experience with STEM, then you’ll most likely have fun in this club.

Q: What do you do in this club?

A: This club does STEM-related activities. What does that entail? For example, the first meeting was dedicated to building a marshmallow structure with limited toothpicks and limited time. Once time finished, the structures were put through a series of trials; earthquake simulation (movement of the structure), picking up the structure, and placing it down. This activity demonstrates the importance of geometry in real-world applications.

I asked an essential question to the Vice President of this club, Ariana Mercado. Her answer was inspirational and insightful to get a better understanding of the She Leads STEM club at CHSN. When asked, “What is a goal that you have for this year?” Ariana responded, “Help advance science education outreach. Our club is targeted but not limited towards younger girls.” This club has clear passion and dedication to completing their goals.

Anyone can join and this is also a fun club to be a part of. Make new friends, learn about STEM, and inspire younger generations to pursue the field of STEM. Staying ambitious and curious will help you in any field, including STEM. Take hold of that curiosity and ambition, and simply apply it to STEM.
