Multiple students from our own school were honored as National Merit Honorees, displaying their hard work and dedication to learning and academic achievement. These students are surely going on to great things. Let’s dive deeper into some of their lives and interests.

The following seniors were those who are being recognized as Commended Students in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Competition. Commended students placed among the top 50,000 students who took the 2022 PSAT. In order to learn more about them, we asked them questions like “What extracurricular activities do you love?” and “What are your plans after high school?” Keep reading to learn more about some of our honorees.

David Silverman:

David is a tennis player on the Clarkstown North Varsity Tennis team while participating in Science Olympiad and Robotics, demonstrating his wide range of interests. Outside of school, he plays saxophone and for the Rockland Youth Jazz Ensemble and enjoys pen spinning. David’s favorite subject is physics with plans to eventually become a physicist.

Finn Thompson:

Finn participates in Cue & Curtain, Stage Left Children's Theater, Clarkstown Crew, and French Club. He works at Woodmont Day Camp and takes music lessons outside of school. He loves the arts and wants to maintain his passion for music throughout his life. His favorite subjects are English and science, which he says, “I know is a weird combination, but I can't choose a favorite!” After high school, he plans on going to a private four-year college or university as an undeclared major to continue to explore his interests.

Selena La:

Selena participates in Art Club and Epiphany while fencing on North’s team. Her favorite subject is math, therefore, she wants to major in computer science with plans to continue her academic pursuit at the Rochester Institute of Technology. While Selena’s academic focus is predominantly STEM-based, she holds many interests in more creative pursuits that she explores in North’s clubs.

Chris Anil:

Chris participates in Debate Club and loves attending competitions with his team, all while editing articles for the Ram’s Horn and participating in Science Olympiad. In his free time, he volunteers at New City Library and loves Game Pigeon and Word Hunts. His favorite subjects are science and math and he plans to go to college with a focus in finance or accounting.

I can’t wait to see all the great things these students will do next. They have worked so hard in their high school careers and will continue to impress in their future plans.
