IB (International Baccalaureate) is an international academic high school program providing students in their last two years of high school of diverse linguistic, cultural and educational backgrounds with the intellectual, social and critical perspectives required to engage in the global community. The IB curriculum offers a comprehensive two-year curriculum for Juniors and Seniors in which all participants study languages, science, mathematics, humanities, and the arts.
The International Baccalaureate program encourages students to:
learn how to learn
ask challenging questions
understand the ways of people in society and the scientific forces of the environment
develop a strong sense of their own identity and culture
develop the ability to communicate with and understand people from other countries and cultures

There are no specific minimum requirements for entry into the IB Diploma program. However, certain characteristics are associated with successful diploma candidates and all IB diploma candidates are required to meet with the IB coordinator to determine which IB courses offer the best fit for the student. As long as a student is willing to strive for the following characteristics, he/she will be given the opportunity to enroll in IB courses. The successful IB student:
is self-motivated and family supported
desires to be challenged intellectually and academically
is a competent reader
speaks and writes clearly and effectively
possesses analytical and critical thinking skills
possesses or is willing to acquire good time and stress management skills
is open to new ideas and tolerant of different beliefs
participates in school and community activities
is willing to handle the rigor and pace of a demanding academic curriculum
To prepare for the IB program, it is recommended that students take the most challenging possible coursework during 9th and 10th grades. Students who maintain a 90% average or above during freshman and sophomore years experience the smoothest transition to IB courses. The following curriculum map shows various pathways to prepare academically for IB.
