On this page, you’ll find popular book series organized by Fountas & Pinnell (F&P) reading bands. While F&P levels are not aligned to the Science of Reading and are not used for foundational skill instruction, they can still provide a general reference point when thinking about text complexity — including vocabulary, sentence structure, themes, and plot development.

It is important to remember that a student’s decoding ability and a book’s overall complexity are not always the same thing. Strong readers grow through explicit phonics instruction, background knowledge building, and meaningful comprehension work. At the same time, using reading bands can help families and students think about approximate text difficulty when choosing independent reading books.
