7th Grade English Language Arts & Social Studies
7th Grade English Language Arts & Social Studies
Class Description
In this class, students will engage in exciting lessons that blend the skills of reading, writing, and critical thinking with the exploration of history. In English Language Arts, we will dive into a variety of texts, from novels to poems, and learn how to analyze, discuss, and write about what we read. Students will also focus on building strong writing skills, crafting clear and thoughtful essays, and developing their ability to express ideas effectively.
In Social Studies, students will explore key events, figures, and themes in history, focusing on how different cultures and societies have shaped the world. We'll cover everything from ancient civilizations to modern times, using engaging activities, discussions, and projects to make history come alive.
By the end of the year, students will be stronger readers, writers, and thinkers with a deeper understanding of both language and history.
Hendersonville, TN is where I grew up, and where I eventually met my husband, Kevin. We married in 1999, and added daughters to our family in 2002 and 2004, Carragan and Kaylea. We moved to Fentress County in 2015, seeking a more conducive place to raise our daughters, and it was certainly life changing. We are now empty-nesters, and are very proud of the young women they have become.
I have taught in a public school setting for 10 years. In Sumner County, I taught 3rd and 4th grade at Nannie Berry Elementary school. After taking a year off when we moved, I taught at South Fentress Elementary a few years, teaching Math to 4th grade and 8th grade students. My last 4 years were spent at Clarkrange High School teaching Algebra 1 to 9th grade students. For the past two and a half years, I have been out of the classroom, but I am very excited to be back doing what I felt called to do way back in high school.
My classroom is a little different than most. I do not have individual desks, but rather do flexible seating, giving students choices as to where they learn the best. The classroom environment is extremely important, so your students will notice I go all out on my theme, and try to make it an enjoyable and fun space for all of us. I have always had high expectations for my students. In my experience, if high expectations are set, they rise to them...sometimes totally unaware. Learning is a skill we should carry with us for a lifetime. In my classroom, I try to make it as enjoyable as I can, while still holding to those high expectations I spoke of earlier.
I am very honored to be here at North Cumberland Elementary and am very excited to have the opportunity to serve the community of Crossville.
