Scholastic Scope is also used in this class to teach both reading informational text and literature.

Materials needed:

1. Index Cards

2. 1-2 inch binder with dividers

3. Highlighters

4. Pens

5. Pencils

6. Paper

Grading Procedure (Daily, Test, Quiz):

This class is broken into three categories for grading purposes.

· Reading Informational Text 30%

· Reading Literature 30%

· Composition 40%

Certain assignments will be weighted more than others depending on the importance of the assignment.

Some examples include:

· Tests will be weighted 2x each

· Major writing assignments will be weighed 2x each

Major Assignments/Test(s)/Fieldtrips (if applicable):

· Novel Units – These consist of many hands on activities & skills

· Essay Writing (Including: argumentative, expository, narrative)

· Accelerated Reading – requires completion of goal and test average of 85% each nine weeks.

· Research Projects

Attendance/Make-Up Work Policy:

Students are given three days to make up any assignment missed due to absence. If the assignment is not completed within those three days, 20 points are deducted per day after and the student will be circled for failure to complete work.
