Meet the Chef

Hi, I'm Chef Mike Tumulty;

I am a new teacher at Cumberland County High School. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Culinary Arts Management from the Arts Institute of Tennessee-Nashville. I hail from the Pacific Northwest and I am a retired Chief Warrant Officer from the United States Coast Guard. I have passion for the Culinary Arts world since I was a little boy. My Grandma was a Chef. She owned her own restaurant. I learned a lot from watching her cook and made my money as a teenager washing dishes, making breakfast, lunch and dinner for the chef's, and practicing at home and at work to hone my skills until I joined the Coast Guard.

I have had the opportunity to work with your young adults since January of 2018. We have focused on safety and sanitation, fundamental cooking and baking of savory and pastry foods, and introduced students to marketing and selling their prepared foods to the masses of CCHS.

Now that I have a little more experience as teacher, we will raise the bar to take students further into the journey of a culinary chef, baker, personal chef, garde manger, saucier and experience the adrenaline rush of a full tilt kitchen.

Students will be required to complete a safety test at the beginning of the semester as well as how to handle food so nobody gets sick (yes, I taste all the food, so Chef Mike doesn't want to be sick!) I have loved working with your children and at a minimum, hope that I can reach them to at least help you out in your kitchen. They will know how to do the dishes so you don't get sick either!

I can be reached by email and will respond back to you once I see it. You will have my phone number once I email you. Once I have your number, we can text if that suites you. You can talk to me about your child or about a recipe. When we have an open house, come on in. I have a kitchen or two.

I look forward to seeing your children in August, and meeting you in the future.

Respectfully,

Chef Mike
