Artificial Intelligence is changing the way we live, work, and create. In this course, we move beyond being just users of AI to becoming informed creators and critics of it. Using the Code.org AI Foundations curriculum, you will explore how machines "learn," the hardware that powers them, and the ethical responsibility that comes with building automated systems. From identifying bias in algorithms to designing your own AI-driven solutions, this course prepares you to navigate a future where human intelligence and machine learning intersect.
Problem Solving with AI: Explore the creative potential of AI while tackling critical issues like algorithmic bias and model "hallucinations."
The Mechanics of Machine Learning: Get introduced to Python to understand the logic that allows AI to process information.
Systems & The Internet: Investigate the physical hardware, IoT devices, and global network infrastructure (IP addresses and security) that allow AI to function at scale.
Cybersecurity in the AI Age: Analyze modern security risks and learn how encryption and privacy protocols protect data in an automated world.
Data Science & Ethics: Learn to collect, visualize, and interpret data sets, ensuring that the "insights" AI provides are accurate, ethical, and fair.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
Differentiate between various types of AI and explain how they learn from data.
Identify and mitigate bias within datasets and machine learning models.
Use Python to build foundational logic for data-processing and AI-adjacent programs.
Evaluate the global impact of AI on privacy, cybersecurity, and the workforce.
About me
My name is Jacob Crowder. I graduate from CCHS in 2006, studied abroad in Ukraine, and majored in Russian and International Business at UT in 2011. From there I worked in international logistics at Nissan North America for 5 years, earned my MBA in IS Management from Tennessee Tech and worked for Terrepower LLC as a Data Analyst for 10 years.
I teach Computer Science, Cyber Security, and coding. In addition to teaching I coach the Esports team and am the main Sponsor for CyberPatriots.
I have a wife and two children and currently reside in Cookeville. In my spare time I enjoy gaming, drone flying, and 3d printing. It's great to be back at my Alma Mater.
