1. "Media and Our Influence" with Lindsay Porter
Sessions 1, 2, 3 and 4
Keynote Speaker Lindsay was one of the scientists who worked on the film "A Plastic Ocean". Students will explore alternatives to using plastics in our everyday lives as well as the power of media.
2. Bye Bye Plastic Bags with Isabel and Melati Wijsen
Sessions 1, 2, 3 and 4
Learn about the power of young people from our Keynote Speakers, Isabel and Melati, as well as some of their current projects.
3. "Providing our food sustainably: The Biosphere 2 story" with Sally Silverstone
Sessions 1, 2, 3 and 4
Scientist and environmentalist Sally Silverstone will discuss her work with the Biosphere Foundation. She is an expert in marine conservation, conscious consuming, and sustainable agriculture. The workshop will start with a talk about the Biosphere 2 project and how 8 people sustainably produced their entire diet for 2 years. We will then move on to the challenges faced today and what we can do as individuals to help the move towards a more sustainable future for food.
4. "The Science of Influence" with Lana Kristanto
Sessions 1 and 2
What makes people behave the way they do, and how can we influence this? In this workshop, you will learn simple strategies to make effective and persuasive campaigns, based on findings in psychology and behavioral sciences.
Lana is a senior analyst at Kopernik, an organization working to find effective solutions for poverty reduction, based in Ubud, Bali.
5. “Leading Change: How to Diffuse Innovation” with Cindy Chen

A great idea is just that, an idea, until it can be put into practice. Even ideas that may seem like a 'no brainer' for those enthused may be met with great deal of resistance for all those reasons we’ve heard before: “we don’t have time for that, “oh great, another initiative,” or “that’s not part of my responsibility.” In this session, we will explore how to diffuse innovation so that a great idea can come alive and make a positive impact. Utilizing an exciting simulation called "AMOEBA" developed by change agent and sustainability consultant, Alan AtKisson, we will identify the different roles we can all play in diffusing innovation and develop strategies for ensuring the innovation reaches the take off point.
6. “Systems thinking and Sustainable Development” with Michelena McPherson

Have you ever tried to address a Global Issue only to feel daunted by how complex it is? Come to our workshop, we will help you feel more confident and take action on an issue that you are passionate about in your community by exploring the 17 Goals for Sustainable development and the nature of “Systems.” In this interactive workshop we will explore the 17 Goals for Sustainable Development, Systems Thinking and the Sustainability Compass. We will be using these tools to help you organize your ideas and delve deeper into the Global Goals. Every delegate will walk away with a tool they can use to help them better understand an issue that they are passionate about.
7. "Aquaponics and Agriculture" with Tristan Harvey and CCS Students
Sessions 1, 2, 3 and 4
Students at Canggu Community School run a weekly session on Aquaponics, a self-watering agricultural system. The workshop will teach you how and why aquaponics farming can help anyone anywhere, with any amount of space, farm high density and fast growing sustainable organic produce and fish. You will also build a small aquaponics system of your own that you can take home.
8. "Plasticology" with Made Bayak
Sessions 1, 2 and 3
Made is a Bali-based artist who uses discarded plastics to create art. Using the plastics collected during the One Island One Voice beach clean-up on February 24, we will create together. Over the course of three sessions, different participants will contribute to one masterpiece - turning plastic waste into an artistic protest.
9. Borneo Nature Foundation with Suzanne Turnock
Sessions 1, 2, 3 and 4
Suzanne is a conservationist and communications specialist who has been working for the Borneo Nature Foundation for the past 4 years. Living and working in Kalimantan, Indonesian Borneo she has first-hand experience of trying to protect the fragile habitats and endangered species living on this beautiful island, like the Bornean orangutan. The threats to Borneo are man-made so if we are part of the problem, then we must also be part of the solution. During the workshop participants will discuss the plight of the rainforests of Indonesia and what we can do to protect the animals and places we love.
10. "Conscious Consuming" with Cristina Lopez McLauchlan
Session 4
Join Cristina, our yoga teacher on Sunday morning and the founder of The Vibe Tribe, a conscious consumer lifestyle brand. What we put in and on our bodies has an impact on ourselves, our environment, and other people. Together we will consider how to consciously choose the clothes we wear, the foods we eat, the lotions and toothpastes we use, and more. **Bring with you any wrappers or waste from anything you have eaten or purchased in the last 48 hours!
11. "Seeking Solutions through Service and Adventure!" with Kenny Peavey
Sessions 1, 3 and 4
No matter where your talents, skills or interests lie you have something to contribute to making a difference in your community. Kenny will use his own Community Action Projects Rockin’ 4 the Environment, Green Riders Bamboo Bike, Green Paddlers, Buy A Book, Support A Village and the Mt. Agung Volcano Education and Relief Program as concrete examples demonstrating how to plan an Action Project from conception to implementation so that you can contribute to a cause you feel passionate about.
12. Merah Putih Hijau with Adrian Keet
Sessions 1 and 2
The MPH program was founded in Bali to empower & equip local villages to better manage household waste and reduce impact on the environment. This workshop will illustrate how positive change can be brought about through community action, collaboration and innovation. Attendees will participate in hands on exercises to understand household waste separation and why it’s important.
13. "Supporting the Sporting Life and Setting Future Goals" with students Giada, Maria, Inca and Oscar
Session 2
Hear from young sportspeople who have gained sponsorship for their passions and balance the challenges of meeting the demands of school and entering the world of professional sports. Learn how to engage your passions and make a creative vision for your future that sets up pathways to success.
This presentation and practical work will teach some tools for successful self realisation.
14. Green School Bio Bus Team
Sessions 3 and 4
Learn about some of the initiatives of the Bio Bus team at the Green School. They run their school buses off of used cooking oil (some of you will be riding in those buses to and from your hotels!), and they also focus on sustainability in general. During the sessions, you will make soap or a candle, which you can take home with you.
15. Human Writes with Galuh Wandita and Asia Justice And Rights
Sessions 1, 2 and 3
Galuh is a human rights lawyer, activist and story-teller. Using the case study of the Stolen Children of East Timor, explore the ways in which telling stories can help us raise awareness. What are children's rights? How can we guarantee them in times of peace and of conflict?
16. Organic Farming with Daniel Kandinata of Gobleg Organic Farm and Tom Hufnagel
Sessions 1, 2 and 3
What are the benefits and challenges of growing our food organically? Discuss the experiences of permaculture farming. Help build a greenhouse on campus that the kitchen will then use to feed the school community.
CANCELLED - Bamboo Construction with Arief Rabik
Arief promotes sustainable and alternative construction by using bamboo as the main building material. He works with the Indonesian government to decrease our dependency on limited resources and to instead focus on the use of bamboo. Students will construct a structure together that will stay on the CCS campus.
