Birthday Parties: Store bought treats are allowed. Please do not send homemade items. Treats should be prepackaged or proportioned for individuals. Do not send a cake that needs to be cut.
Accelerated Reader: Fifth graders are expected to read 30 minutes each night in a book of their choosing. Research has shown daily independent reading to be one of the most important factors in predicting student success in school. Please encourage your child to read daily, and ask questions about what he/she is reading!
Your child will be required to earn A.R. points. He/she can earn points by reading A.R. books and completing the accompanying quizzes with a score of 60% of above.
Quarter 1 = 12 points
Quarter 2 = 12 points
Quarter 3 = 15 points
Quarter 4 = 15 points
Your child will be able to accumulate as many points as desired to use towards the “purchase” of items at the A/R store.
S.T.A.R.—This is our school wide discipline incentive program (STOP, THINK, ACT, RESPONSIBLY). At the end of each nine weeks, those students who have qualified with responsible behavior will enjoy some type of reward (party, movie, game day…..). **Fifth grade students will be disqualified from participating in the S.T.A.R. party if they have a standing total of ten negative Class Dojo points at the end of the quarter, have been assigned a detention within the nine week grading period, have been sent to the office for a behavior infraction, homework negligence, or have repeated violations of the S.T.A.R Discipline Plan.
DISCIPLINE PLAN: In class we use Class Dojo to monitor our behavior. Positive behavior earns a Dojo point. Negative behavior earns a point deduction. Please make sure that you join Class Dojo. I will provide you with the class code. We also implement the S.T.A.R. school-wide discipline plan (see parent handbook).
CLASS RULE:
1. RESPECT
If what you are doing interferes with learning, hurts someone's heart, or prevents you from being your best self...then you shouldn't be doing it.
CLASS DOJO: We use ClassDojo to track student behavior. Each day, your child has the opportunity to earn positive & negative points based on his/her behavior. ClassDojo Messaging allows me to send quick messages straight to your cell phone. I use this for reminders, homework and important updates. You do not need a smart phone to receive messages. The ClassDojo app (free for iPhone & Android) also allows you to send messages to me. This is by far the best way to contact me, as I frequently see these messages before emails! I will send sign up instructions home with your child’s unique code during the first week of school if you are not already signed up.
Top Dojo point earner for each quarter, gets lunch with the teacher!
Homework: Homework will be posted daily on Class Dojo.
